Trainings Help Employers Adapt to Changing COVID-19 Prevention Regulations

COVID-19 safety continues to be a priority in workplaces throughout California as more people receive their vaccines. Still, employers and supervisors have many questions about best practices and state regulations as they design their COVID-19 prevention plans. AgSafe and the UC Davis Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety are hosting free trainings that can help.

The offerings include web-based and in-person trainings in both English and Spanish throughout June. The train-the-trainer courses provide employers, farm labor contractors, growers and farm supervisors current information on COVID-19 workplace safety issues, such as expanded sick leave policies, new Cal/OSHA requirements and COVID-19 prevention programs. Participants will receive training videos and other resources (available in multiple languages) and a certificate of completion. Additional trainings and webinars will be held this summer and fall to help employers stay up to date with safety requirements and best practices.

Also in June, AgSafe is hosting a webinar on what employers need to consider as COVID-19 “long haulers” return to work. While many people recover from COVID-19 within a few weeks, some workers experience fatigue, coughing, shortness of breath and other lingering effects weeks and months after their positive test. As these long haulers return to the workplace, employers, health care professionals and workers’ compensation carriers must navigate how to best care for these employees.

In this session, experts including Dr. Greg Vanichkachorn from the Mayo Clinic will discuss their latest findings on these complex issues and consider regulations and best practices to protect their workforce. Dr. Vanichkachorn will be joined by Patricia Martinez, ag program manager of Risico Claims Management, and Amy Wolfe from Daniel C. Salas Harvesting. Carlos Luna, vice president of marketing for Risico, will moderate the event.

The webinar will be held June 23 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
